How to Have Sweet Dreams

A good night's sleep can improve mental alertness, provide sustained energy throughout the day and promote a general sense of well-being. If you'd like to wake up well-rested, there are a few steps you can take to help you sleep well at night.

Instructions

    • 1

Create a bedtime and wake-up time for the work week so you can develop a routine. Add a maximum of two hours to the routine during the weekends.

    • 2

Take 10 minutes to complete last-minute chores and oral hygiene before your planned bedtime. Then take another five minutes to wind down and allow your body to relax. You can read a book, meditate or just sit in a chair quietly.

    • 3

Create a comforting environment. Make sure your room is dark, quiet and cool without any distractions such as televisions, MP3 players or computers. If you're in an area with a lot of outside noise, buy a sound machine that plays soothing sounds such as ocean waves.

    • 4

Wear loose-fitting clothing when you get into bed. Release any tension in your body by inhaling through your nose and slowly exhaling from your mouth. Close your eyes and fall asleep.
