How to Boost Your Positivity

Positivity is an important part of life. If you can change your attitude and be more positive, things will seem better and, in a self-fulfilling prophecy, become better as people start to respond to your positivity. Positivity doesn't come overnight though, and it also shouldn't be mistaken for denial. There's a difference between being positive and being unrealistic, and you should take steps to maximize the former while minimizing the latter.

Focus your thinking on things that you want. If you walk around all day thinking about what you don't want to happen, you will dwell on them and become negative without making any concrete changes. So, rather than saying, "I don't want to walk into a puddle on my way to work," say, "I want to walk on dry patches on my way to work." Not only does this frame things in a positive light, it also gives you a clear action plan to keep your day more positive.

Smile often. Smiling usually comes from happiness, but it can go the other way, too. When you smile, your brain associates that with happiness. So, if you smile more often, you will start to become more positive by "tricking" your brain.

Do things. This can be whatever you want -- go to the gym, learn how to fish, take a language class. The more things you are doing, the more you will have to be positive about.

Talk to people. Talk to the guy at the sandwich shop and the woman at the grocery store. If you talk to people while smiling and being positive, they will respond in kind, which will in turn make you feel good. Spreading a little positivity begets positivity, which will improve your life.
