Information on a Positive Attitude

A common misconception about a positive attitude is that it stems from happiness; the truth is that you don't have to be happy to maintain a positive attitude. In order to have and maintain a positive attitude, you have to embrace a vision for your life.
  1. Theory

    • Planning your vision around the reputation you want to have is a good way to build a positive attitude. Regardless of your current situation, visualize what you want people to say about you three months from now; then target your actions and thoughts for that goal. An example of that would be a woman who wants to be recognized for her singing abilities to take the initiative to start singing at local venues.

    Function

    • A positive attitude is a mindset that will help you to remain effective and successful despite life's daily stresses.

    Benefits

    • A positive attitude is not just good for your general demeanor, it's good for your body too. Charles Raison, M.D., explained in a Feb. 6, 2008, ABC Health News online report that a positive attitude plays a major role in protecting your body from the physical damage that stress causes. When your attitude is not negatively impacted by an adverse situation, your body doesn't trigger a stress response, such as raising your blood pressure.

    Features

    • A positive attitude creates an action. A person with a positive attitude can be found helping someone else, encouraging others or smiling.

    Warning

    • Having a positive attitude is not the same as being delusional with a false sense of reality. When your pleasant disposition is based on an idea that nothing bad will ever happen, you are building yourself up for disappointment. Having a positive attitude allows you to accept that bad things will happen, but that you will be able to face them without emotional devastation.
