Natural Ways to Focus

Many people attempt to strengthen their mental focus and concentration by drinking stimulants, but several natural methods can improve mental agility. Much like building strength through physical exercise, attaining consistent focus requires regimented repetitions of these methods. These natural exercises greatly aid in the timely and efficient completion of tasks, resulting in a stronger overall focus.
  1. Prioritizing

    • A "scatter-brained" approach is frequently the result of being unable to effectively sort through a multitude of tasks to determine the order for what you need accomplish. A dozen tasks, from paying bills, to arranging a client meeting, to remembering to eat dairy for lunch, can be overwhelming. Prioritizing the tasks -- 1. Set up the client meeting; 2. Pay the bills; 3. Eat dairy for lunch -- eradicates pressure, allowing the mind to focus on the tasks and not the feeling of being overwhelmed.

    Breathing

    • Breathing deeply acts as a kind of mental circuit breaker. By lying flat on the floor, placing a book on the stomach, and then attempting to visibly yet slowly elevate the book with deep breaths, you force your mind and body to work together, increasing focus. Breathing deeply at regular intervals throughout the day releases stress, which correspondingly alleviates pressure on the mind, clearing it to focus.

    Time Management

    • Ultimately, you achieve focus by estimating the amount of time it will take to complete a task, then creating a schedule so that you can complete all tasks within a given time frame. By being able to proceed calmly through a pre-scheduled framework, the mind can concentrate fully on each task, finish it in an efficient manner then move on to the next task.
