How to Use a Rubberband to Stop Negative Thinking

- Coated rubberband

Put a coated rubberband on one wrist. A regular rubber band works as well but can end up pulling your arm hair. Either wrist is fine.

When you have a negative thought, say "stop" out loud, while simultaneously snapping the rubberband. This must happen at the same time so that your brain associates the rubberband with the thought.

After you have snapped the rubberband, tell yourself what you were having the negative thought about. Take a moment to reflect on it.
