Observe other positive people and follow in their footsteps. It is the optimism of others around you that will inspire you to be more positive as well. By seeing them happy and content with life, as well as hopeful for the future, you will learn the importance of being a positive person.

Limit your interaction with negative people. These types of individuals will bring you down to their level of pessimism, of which it is difficult to escape. Focus on surrounding yourself with a positive support group of people.

Practice positive thinking and imagery. Repeat simple affirmations to yourself every day about living a positive life and striving to be a positive person. Keep a journal and write down the things you are grateful for. Close your eyes and create a positive world in your mind.

Increase your physical activity, and find new exercises to motivate and challenge you. Exercising gives you endorphins, which ultimately lead to a happier, more content feeling.

Be a good Samaritan by doing good things for other people, such as donating your money or time to a charity, becoming a volunteer for a local organization or doing a small favor like walking your neighbor's dog or driving an elderly family member to her appointments. When you do selfless acts for others, it gives you an overwhelming feeling of pride, which helps you to be more positive.

Appreciate the good things in your life, no matter how small they may seem. Whether it be as rewarding as getting a promotion at work, or as simple as a bright and sunny day, recognize and be thankful for the positive things in your life.
