What Is Heart Math?

Heart math is an idea promoted by Doc Childre, a stress-management expert, to help people decrease their stress levels and increase their quality of life. Childre has brought together a large amount of scientific research to show the importance of using one's heart as well as one's mind to live life more fully.

History

• Doc Childre founded the Institute of HeartMath and is the chairman and co-CEO of Quantum Intech Inc., which is the parent company of HeartMath LLC. All three of these organizations promote the connection between the care of the heart and the health, including mental health, of the rest of the body.

Institute of HeartMath

• Heart Math can assist students by decreasing stress and improving performance.

  The Institute of HeartMath (IHM) is a nonprofit organization that researches the connections between the heart and the brain. It also provides educational programs to assist students with stress management and educational performance.

HeartMath LLC

• HeartMath can increase health of employees and work productivity.

  HeartMath LLC has three points of focus: personal, health care and corporate wellness. The company provides tools and technology for individuals, health care workers and other types of employees to improve health and quality of work.

Quantum Intech Inc.

• Quantum Intech Inc. is the technology and manufacturing company for HeartMath programs and products. The company "develops, licenses, manufactures and distributes biometric and emotion-regulated technology products."

Research

• The brain and heart are interconnected and need to be treated gently to enhance health.

  HeartMath research is based on the premise that the heart and the brain communicate extensively with each other and that emotions play a vital role in the physical well-being of each individual. Physiologically, the heart displays much of what the person is feeling, and even our "emotions are reflected in our heart rhythm patterns."
