Stress Relieving Activities
Life is stressful, and people who are constantly stressed out can suffer from health problems, sleeping problems, addictions as a means of escaping stress, and poor relationships. The good news is that there are a number of ways to combat stress. By taking steps to reduce or eliminate the amount of stress you are carrying, you may be able to avoid some of its more severe consequences.-
Give Yourself a Time-Out
-
Sometimes when we are feeling over stressed, it is our body or mind's way of telling us that we need to take a break. This is a very good idea because stress can distract you and hinder your productivity. Walking away may give you not only a rest but a fresh perspective. When feeling stressed, simply give yourself an allotted amount of time to walk away from the activity or task at hand.
Exercise
-
Exercising is a great way to help reduce stress. Exercising vigorously for 30 minutes to an hour can help you release some pent-up energy and clear your mind. If you work out hard enough, your body is likely to release endorphins that will help further reduce your stress and improve your mood.
Distract Yourself
-
If you cannot seem to escape your source of stress, try distracting yourself. Watch a favorite movie or read a good book.
Go to Your Happy Place
-
Do something you enjoy to help relieve your stress. Spend some time with your spouse doing an acitivity you enjoy, or play a game with your kids. Take a bubble bath or visit a spa. Revisit an old hobby you have not allowed yourself time for, take a walk in the park, or indulge yourself with your favorite dessert.
Find a Listening Ear
-
It is often helpful to talk to a friend or confidant about what is weighing you down. This may help you gain perspective and get some much-deserved empathy and understanding about what you are going through.
Pray
-
The Bible says in 1 Peter 5:7 to "Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you." If you are religious, praying to God and trusting that He is in control and will take care of you is an excellent way to help reduce your stress.
