Recognize and accept the feeling. Focus on how your body tenses when you get stressed or your hands clench when you are angry. Notice the signs, and accept the emotion, realizing it is all right to feel frustrated, frightened or angry.

    • 2

Take a time out. If you are feeling overwhelmed by your emotions, remove yourself from the situation, even if you just take a quick walk. Use this time to take some deep breaths and clear your mind to prevent you from losing your temper and hurting yourself and others.

    • 3

Distract yourself by reading a book or playing computer games. Sometimes, immersing yourself in another world will diminish your anger.

    • 4

Talk to a close friend or family member. Often, venting your frustration will calm you down and help you see the situation more clearly. These trusted individuals can lend support and advice when needed.

    • 5

Dig deeper into your inner fears. Anger is often triggered by fear, and if you can decipher the root of the trigger, what you are really afraid of, you may be able to control your anger better.
