How to Set Up a Meditation Room

1
Select a room that feels comfortable and will allow for quiet meditation whenever desired. Any room can be used for meditation, but find one that is quiet and free of distractions.
-
2
Determine the amount of light needed the room. Usually, meditation calls for the dimming of the allocated space because when the eyes are exposed to light, this triggers the body to "awake" and be active, which can prevent one from relaxing and clearing the mind. In this case, block out excessive light. Seek colors and prints that add to the ambiance of the room.

3
Set up altars or symbolic items around the room. Use items such as statues, talismans, prayer beads, stones, crystals, jewelry or pictures to hold or look at during meditation. Set a CD player in the background to softly play soothing melodies. Use aromatherapy oil burners or incense.

4
Add chairs, pillows or mats to the room to support the body and add comfort, which also prevents distraction.
