Start by assessing if you are in the frame of mind and physical state to go home. If you are too badly shaken, stay where you are. Have someone help you if you feel you might faint or just collapse from the sheer shock. Of course, if you think you need medical attention, have someone call you an ambulance or take you to the hospital or a medical outpatient clinic.

Have someone drive you home if you are unable to do so safely. Regardless of the news, if you find yourself starting to become upset, crying or shaking, you are probably not fit to drive. Ask someone to drive you home or call you a cab home. If you do not believe you can tell the driver where to go, have someone direct them. Ask your helper to call you within the hour to be certain you arrived home safely.

Sleep early. The next day, give yourself plenty of time to move into your routine. You may need to see a doctor if you sense you are still feeling panicked or cannot seem to concentrate or focus. Call to consult with your doctor for guidance.
