How to Stop Making Excuses

Finding the power from within to claim responsibility for your life and success, as well as moving toward fulfilling your goals and dreams, can be both frightening and overwhelming. It's only when you realize your potential for greatness, however, that you can do great things. Stop making excuses and be the powerful person you are.

Instructions

    • 1

Have confidence in not only yourself, but your talents as well. Don't doubt your qualifications. If you want to approach your boss for a promotion or wish to apply for a new job, you won't ever get ahead with doubt and insecurity weighing you down.

    • 2

Seize the opportunity. There is never a "perfect" time for anything, and you will only deny the possibility of success by waiting. Stop making excuses for why you haven't lost those extra pounds or found the perfect partner, and don't place the blame on your lack of time or choices. More likely, you are simply afraid to fail or scared to move beyond your comfort zone.

    • 3

Focus on your successes and learn from your flaws. Don't sabotage your chance to shine because you have a fear of failing. Make a list of the times you've accomplished something great for those times when you need a little "pep" talk or extra motivation.

    • 4

Be honest with yourself. If you are serious about eating better, getting a promotion or starting your own business, there is little that will stop you. However, your excuses for not doing what you want could actually be hiding the real reason for why you don't get ahead.
