How to Be a Perfectionist

Perfectionism is a state of mind that makes a person upset when a mistake is made or they are unable to achieve a goal. Perfectionism creates a stressful environment for both the perfectionist and anyone dealing with them. Here are some signs that you are a perfectionist.

Instructions

    • 1

Realize the goals you set are impossible to obtain, leading to a belief you have failed. This differs from someone that sets high goals that can be attained.

    • 2

Notice all the small mistakes made by yourself and by others, including your family. Focus on those mistakes rather then moving forward in a positive way.

    • 3

Observe that you are afraid you will never achieve what you set out to do, and that you work on simple tasks and procrastinate doing what you believe will be difficult.

    • 4

Understand that you are never happy because you can't reach an insurmountable mission. A person who is successful but not a perfectionist will enjoy the pursuit of a dream even if they can't reach it.

    • 5

Analyze why you are always depressed while others who are not perfectionists seem so happy.

    • 6

Ask yourself if you can be happy identifying yourself as average.

    • 7

Question if you believe those around you notice every mistake you make and are critical of you.

    • 8

Make sure that you win any disagreement.

    • 9

Confirm that you will be considered inferior when compared to any other person.

    • 10

Do things yourself rather than allows others to help you because you believe you will do a better job.

    • 11

Refuse to get help from a therapist because you don't believe anything is wrong.
