How to Use Affirmations to Relax

Affirmations repeated daily have the ability to put you in a calm state of mind. You can use positive affirmations to relieve the stress that may be plaguing you. The way to do this is to create affirmations that chase away negative thinking and relax both your mind and body.

Instructions

    • 1

Find a recorder to tape yourself. Locate a blank cassette tape and label it as your affirmation tape.

    • 2

Write down some calming phrases. Keep the words positive and set out to create sentences that will make you relax when you listen to them. An example would be, "I am relaxed. I have relaxed my toes, my legs, my mid-section and my head. My entire body is at ease."

    • 3

Put on music in the background. While you are recording your affirmations, put on some soothing music to accompany your words.

    • 4

Record your affirmations. Speak in a calm voice and repeat the words several times. You should record several minutes of tape.

    • 5

Listen to the recorded affirmations in a quiet room. Eliminate distractions and put the lights low or use candlelight. Find a comfortable chair to sit in or lie in your bed or bathtub.

    • 6

Focus on the affirmations and your words. Close your eyes and take deep cleansing breaths. You will feel your body relax as the words appeal to your subconscious.
