What is the definition of stress?

Stress can be defined as a state of mental or emotional strain or tension resulting from adverse or demanding circumstances. It is a response to a perceived threat or demand that exceeds an individual's current resources or abilities, leading to physical, emotional, cognitive, or behavioral changes. Stress is a normal part of life and can even be motivating, but chronic or excessive stress can have detrimental effects on overall health and well-being.
