Take the time to reflect what your fears truly are. It will be useful to write them down. The most important step is to identify and face your fears and give them attention. Write down all or any fears you have. This can include a fear of heights to a fear of public speaking to anxiety in a large social gathering. Hiding away your fears will only have them constantly reappear.

Talk to your friends and family about your fears. It is better to speak to someone whom you completely trust and someone who won't judge you. It is important to not complain about others when you speak about your fears. It does not solve your fears and will waste time and take away from the important issues. For example, if you have a fear of being in a large crowd, address why that is. Detail what makes you feel uncomfortable instead of complaining about the people who could potentially surround you. You need to find the root of what makes you anxious.

Don't wait for the courage to come to you to overcome your fear. Oftentimes, it is better just to do what you need to do to overcome your fear without thinking about it. When you think and overanalyze about an issue or fear too much, you will build more anxiety and stress. Realize that your fear may be based on a misinterpretation or a miscommunication.

Make a goal list of ways to overcome your fear. Every time you complete one of these tasks, mark it off your checklist. The feeling of accomplishment will cause feel-good emotions that can help you tackle your next goal. For example, if you become anxious in elevators, have a friend accompany you and take a short trip from one level to another in an empty elevator. The fact that you went in the elevator is an accomplishment. Remember that little steps toward overcoming your fear is better than staying stagnant and taking no steps at all.

Stop staying in your safe zone. In order to overcome fear, you will need to try new things that you are not used to. The safe zone is often an illusion in your mind as well. Since you are very accustomed to it, it feels safe. You will realize that the more you move away from your safe zone, the less scary things will appear. If you are terrified of heights, go with your friends and spend the day in a theme park and ride the roller coasters. When your anxiety begins to have you imagine the worst things possible, regain control. Imagine you are calm in the scenario you are thinking about.
