How to Like Yourself Better

When you struggle with self-confidence, it affects various aspects of your life. For example, if you feel as if someone won't love you for the person you are, you may become desperate and do things you know are not right in order to get the attention of a potential dating partner. Or if you believe that you won't be successful in a certain career because someone said you're lacking certain skills, it will cause you to avoid taking the first step in this career because of that individual's comments.

Instructions

    • 1

Focus less on your imperfections and focus more on your strengths. If you're an introvert and you're not as social as others, don't beat yourself up over this trait; instead, focus on how you're generous and compassionate toward others and thus have good friendships in your life. Or if you're full-figured but still healthy overall, learn to accept your figure and shop for clothes that will accentuate you and make you feel beautiful inside and out.

Change unproductive habits. If you're struggling with laziness and you know this is causing you to miss out on career advancement opportunities or the establishment of long-term financial goals, write down your long-term goals. Then next to the goals, write down the necessary steps to take to achieve these goals. For example, if you haven't been saving money, get into a weekly habit of putting aside a portion of your check into a savings account.

Be grateful for the good and bad things in your life. If you just ended a long-term dating relationship, while you're sad that it ended, be glad that you can learn from this experience and know what mistakes not to make in your next relationship. Also be grateful that you still have the love and support of family and friends and that you're still in good physical health.
