Four Possible Causes of Stress

In today's fast-paced world it is easy to feel stressed at times. Stress can sometimes be a motivator, but too much of it can lead to health issues and emotional problems. If you want to reduce the amount of stress in your life, then you may need to figure out what is causing it. Your job, relationship, health and children can be four possible causes of stress.
  1. Work

    • The American Institute of Stress states that studies have shown job-related pressure to be the leading cause of stress for adults in the United States. If you are spending more and more hours at work, then this can cause stress in your life. You can also feel burdened by the amount of work that you are expected to complete in a day. In addition, tense relationships with your boss or co-workers can add to your stress level. Whether you like or dislike your job, you can also live in constant fear of losing it when the economy is struggling.

    Relationships

    • Another possible cause of stress can be your relationship. Helpguide.org states that "anything that puts high demands on you" can be stressful. You can feel stress if your relationship is going well or if it is struggling. For example, planning for a wedding can be overwhelming for you and your mate. Couples sometimes feel stressed if their busy lives do not allow them to spend enough time together. An affair, looming divorce or breakup can also lead to many sleepless nights. If your relationship does end, then you are faced with the stress of finding a new relationship.

    Health

    • Your state of health can be a major source of stress. For example, if you are overweight, then you may feel pressure to lose the extra pounds and disappointment if they don't come off. Unfortunately, stress can make it that much more difficult to lose weight. Illness is often a source of stress for people. Illness can cause you to miss work and put you in a financial bind. A sickness can also create enormous hospital bills. In addition, a serious illness can make your family worry about your prognosis.

    Children

    • Children can also be a possible cause of stress. One of the happiest days in a parent's life is when a child is born. However, a child creates significant changes in your life. For example, a new baby can cause you to lose a lot of sleep. The addition of a child can also create financial hardships. As your children get older, you need to find the time and the means to get them to sports practice, classes or other activities. If your child becomes a rebellious teenager, then the stress can truly begin.
