Easy Ways to Feel Happier

Feeling sad or blue sometimes is normal and does not mean you are suffering from depression. When the feelings persist or begin to interfere with your life, then the possibility of clinical depression may exist. However, much of the time you can do easy things that will make you feel happier. These include finding ways or opportunities to laugh and reaching out to others.
  1. Listen to Comedy Routines

    • Finding something to laugh about is the easiest way to feel happy. If you like watching comedians or listening to recorded versions of their acts, seek out some of your favorite comedy personalities online.

One way to access comedy is by going to Laugh.com. (See resources for specific link.) This website allows you to download comedy routines for free to listen to on your MP3 player. Featured comedians include George Carlin and Jeff Dunham.

This is a good way to give yourself a break during the day. During lunch or scheduled break times, turn on your MP3 player and listen to a few minutes of a comedy routine. The laughter will refresh you, making you more ready to face the rest of the day.

    Watch Classic TV Shows

    • Some TV stations such as Nickelodeon and TV Land play classic comedy shows, such as "I Love Lucy" or "The Andy Griffith Show." You can also download episodes of classic comedies such as "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" and "The Bob Newhart Show" from websites such as Fancast. (See References section.) Alternately, rent or purchase DVDs to keep your favorite classic episodes on hand.

Watching these TV shows after a long day is a good way to relax before you go to bed. You will fall asleep remembering the classic lines and gags instead of worrying or feeling stressed.

    Do Something Nice

    • Volunteering or offering your assistance can help you to feel happy. One way to do this is to go to your local animal shelter and spend some time with the dogs and cats waiting for adoption. If you can find a cage of playful kittens or frisky puppies, their antics will keep you laughing for quite a while, which in turn will help you feel happier. Adult dogs and cats will also enjoy your company.
