Who do you report any health and safety issues too?
Report health and safety issues
1. Identify the hazard: Is there a risk of injury, illness, or damage?
2. Assess the risk: How likely is it that an injury, illness, or damage will occur? How severe could it be?
3. Take action to reduce the risk: Make changes to the workplace to reduce the risk of an injury, illness, or damage occurring.
4. Report the hazard: If the risk cannot be reduced, you should report the hazard to your supervisor, health and safety representative, or other appropriate person.
Who to report health and safety issues to
- Your supervisor: This is the first point of contact for reporting any health and safety issues. Your supervisor is responsible for the health and safety of their employees and they should be able to take action to resolve any issues.
- Health and safety representative: Your workplace may have a health and safety representative who can provide advice and support on any health and safety issues. They can also investigate any issues and make recommendations for improvements.
- Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) inspector: If the health and safety issue is serious or if your employer has failed to take action to resolve the issue, you can contact an OHS inspector. OHS inspectors have the power to investigate health and safety issues and issue orders for employers to take action to resolve the issues.
