Characteristics of Violent Men
Whether they are violent to girlfriends, wives, family members or their children, it is important to have a strong awareness of the common personal characteristics and traits that are often associated with violent men. Men who are violent often follow similar behavioral patterns, and as a result share a variety of personal traits.-
Impulsiveness
-
Impulsiveness is a trait that is often linked to violent men. Violent men can have difficulty in achieving stability in life and often move around from job to job, town to town and friend to friend.
Manipulation
-
Violent men also often possess manipulative and controlling personalities. One common example of a manipulation tactic employed by violent men is constant (and sometimes obsessive) monitoring and interrogation of a partner's behavior, actions and whereabouts. The violent man feigns "concern" for his girlfriend as a disguise for the control he is trying to exert.
Jealousy
-
Extreme jealousy is a very common sign of a violent man. Contrary to what some people may believe, however, severe jealousy is by no means an indication of true caring and love. With violent men, jealousy can point to possessiveness and a lack of self-esteem.
Quick Commitment
-
Violent men may also take a relationship to the next level very quickly. If a man is bizarrely preoccupied with establishing an official "commitment" in a relationship (even from the start), it could be a sign that he has abusive tendencies (or at least will in the future).
Domination
-
If a man tries to block a woman from having her own life, he is displaying some signs of potential future violence. Violent men often try to prevent their partners from having lives of their own as a means of controlling them. If a man frequently puts a woman's friends and family members down (for no apparent reason at all), he may be trying to encourage her to cut some people out of her life. Doing this ensures that he will gain greater control of her in the future.
Over-Sensitivity
-
Violent men are also prone to overreaction and being overly sensitive. Whether it is stress attributed to work or getting a speeding ticket, these types of men are often quick to anger and rage. If a man is angry and riled up, even in situations in which other people would "just deal with it," he could become violent.
Insults
-
If a man constantly belittles and insults others, it could indicate that he has violent tendencies. This could entail everything from calling a wife "fat" or "ugly" during a heated argument to calling a child a "moron" when he gets a "B" on a science test.
Mood Swings
-
Violent men can also be very moody, and unpredictably so. If one day a man is all smiles and upbeat, and the next day for no discernible reason he suddenly behaves in a volatile and cruel way, he may be violent.
