Missouri Home Assistance for Seniors

The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS) coordinates services for seniors. These services include assistance to enable elderly citizens to remain independent and continue living in their homes.
  1. Services Offered

    • Missouri offers a wide range of programs. Disabled seniors can get help making their home safe and livable; assistance can range from widening doorways and building ramps to reconfiguring kitchen or bathroom fixtures. Home health aides assist with personal hygiene and housekeeping chores. Funds are available to pay costs not covered by Medicaid, such as utility bills. Seniors can get help to make and keep appointments, including securing transportation.

    Receiving Assistance

    • Seniors must be eligible for Medicaid to receive services. The Family Support Division of the DHSS determines eligibility. For seniors with income and resources exceeding the limits, exceptions can be made. One exception is Medicaid Spenddown, which subtracts monthly medical expenses from an applicant's income; this might make the person eligible for some services.
