Purpose of the Fire & Rescue Service

The Fire and Rescue Service has a large responsibility of keeping citizens safe while helping those in need. The Fire and Rescue Service has many purposes in its community and beyond.

Firefighting

• The Fire and Rescue Service has the duty of controlling and putting out fires at homes and businesses. Other types of fire they may put out are car fires, barn fires and field fires.

First Aid

• The Fire and Rescue Service also provides first aid to injured citizens or those suffering health emergencies.

Rescue

• When people need to be rescued from flood waters, fires, natural disasters or from cars too damaged to get out of, the Fire and Rescue Service will free those who are trapped.

Promote Safety

• Another job of the Fire and Rescue Service is to promote safety. Teaching the community how to prevent fires, how to respond in an emergency, and how to minimize risk is another purpose of the Fire and Rescue Service.

Keep Up to Code

• The last purpose of the Fire and Rescue Service is to make sure buildings are up to fire code. The building could be a business or residence. The Fire and Rescue Service looks for everything from working smoke detectors to the way electrical wires are placed.
