Plasma Donation Centers in Texas
Plasma is the clear liquid in blood, separate from red blood cells, and is removed through the process of plasmapheresis. The patient lies reclined in a chair and has a needle inserted in him while blood is withdrawn. After the plasma is separated from the blood, the red blood cells are returned to the donor. Plasma cannot be made in a laboratory, so donors provide plasma for various therapies to benefit individuals suffering from hemophilia, severe burns, shock and exposure to rabies.-

Blood and Plasma Research, in operation since 1997, is a locally owned and operated specialty plasma donation center. The center collects donations from individuals with rare antibodies, coagulation factor deficiencies, and Rh negative blood. A FDA-licensed facility, these rare blood types are used to manufacture kits to test for hemophilia and similar disorders as well as to manufacturer Rh immune globulin, given to Rh negative pregnant women and following delivery to pregnant women to protect the fetus. Donors are compensated for their time and the amount of compensation is determined by the demand for their blood type. The amount ranges from $20 to $1,000 per donation, up to two donations per week.
