There are a number of different safety training options held at a number of different institutions in Guelph, Ontario, Canada.   1. Food Safety Training

    • The Guelph Food Technology Centre (GFTC) is one of the best food safety training centers in the world. The GFTC provides customized training in over 150 courses in eight languages. Courses vary from such topics as culinology, microbiology and global food safety. The course content reflects relevancy, industry best practices and focused research. In each course, a student should expect to meet industry experts, to use a wide range of course materials, to develop networking opportunities and to receive a certificate of participation for his hard work.

    First Aid Training

    • The University of Guelph provides Workplace Safety and Insurance Board approved first aid training on its campus throughout the year. The instructors base the program on the Canadian Red Cross program, which is one of the most respected first aid training programs in the world. The topics covered in the courses include, but are not limited to, primary and secondary assessments, serious injury recognition, severe bleeding, burns, puncture wounds and poisoning. After completing one of these courses, students will be granted a certificate that is valid for three years. The course is offered free of charge to all full-time employees of the university. For all others, there is a nominal fee.

    Farm Safety

    • The University of Guelph also offers a comprehensive farm safety course on its campus. The course lasts only one-and-a-half to two hours and briefly covers the safe handling of a number of different farm animals and the proper use of specific farm machinery. The general topics covered in the course include the Occupational Health and Safety Act, injury, incident hazard reporting and working in the heat. The specific content of the course includes training with feed carts, augers, along with specific information related to work with horses, pigs, poultry and sheep.

    Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHIMIS) Training

    • WHIMIS is Canada's hazard communication standard. In Guelph, Gambit Industrial Health and Safety Consultants, Inc. offers a three-hour long course in WHIMIS training. After completing the course, students will learn the responsibilities of those who supply controlled products and the penalties associated with breaking WHIMIS regulations, recognize hazardous symbols, be able to locate first aid rooms, understand the basic methods of handling hazardous materials and recognize the effects of chemicals on the body.

    Motorcycle Training

    • The Rider Training Institute (RTI), located in Guelph, is a not-for-profit training school that provides motorcycle licensing and skills development education. The institute provides motorcycle-related courses of instruction for beginner, intermediate and expert riders. RTI uses what it calls a "building block" style of learning and teaching. Whichever stage the student is at in his rider development, the instructor provides a clear objective to the student, specific applied training to achieve the objective and feedback from the instructor.
