Financial Help for Terminal Cancer Patients

Apart from its physical and emotional effects on patients and their families, terminal cancer poses a financial burden as well. Health insurance sometimes don't cover all medical expenses or at least require copayments. They also usually require patients to not work, resulting in loss of income.

CancerCare

• CancerCare is a nonprofit that provides grants for child care, home care or transportation to patients battling cancer. CancerCare also sponsors a Co-Payment Assistance Foundation that covers patients' deductibles or copays while they undergo chemotherapy.

Leukemia and Lymphoma Society

• The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society provides financial aid to patients facing any type of cancer of the blood. This aid is available only to residents of the United States and is only given to patients with severe financial problems.

National Marrow Donor Program

• Patients requiring a bone-marrow transplant to treat cancer can receive financial aid to search the National Bone Marrow Donor registry as well as to pay for some costs incurred during the transplant process.

American Cancer Society

• The American Cancer Society (ACS) provides free, temporary housing for cancer patients who are receiving treatments through the Hope Lodge. The ACS's Road to Recovery program also offers free transportation for cancer treatments.

The National Brain Tumor Society

• The National Brain Tumor Society offers financial aid to people being treated for brain cancer with medication copays, transportation, modifications of the home environment, home health care and child care.
