Types of Home Stair Lift Systems
-
Function
-
The function of any home stair lift system is to help someone who is otherwise not able to get up and down stairs in their home. They are made to help the elderly, disabled and people who have an injury that enables them to walk the stairs on their own get up and down in comfort.
Features
-
Most home stair lift systems work on the rail of a stairway, but there are others that are wall mounted. If the system that has been chosen requires a rail and there isn't one, one may be installed. There are even lifts that can be fitted for staircases that are curved. The lifts are attached to a motor which allows the user to direct the stair lift either up or down the stairway. Every home stair lift has a built in seat for the user and some come with foot rests. Some stair lift systems can adjust for any user no matter what size or height. For the extremely picky person, cup holders and perhaps even a carry sack can be found on some seats. Some seats are battery operated while others require a plug in. Some can be charged and therefore don't require replacing a battery as often as those chairs that can't be charged.
Size
-
The size of stair system you purchase will be determined by a few factors. One of the first considerations is how tall an individual is. This will help the company determine if you need an adjustable seat and foot rest on the stair lift. How much you weigh will also be a factor in what kind of stair lift system you need to buy. The more you weigh the sturdier the system needs to be. Some stair lift systems come with a fixed seat while others have adjustable ones.
Considerations
-
When you are considering purchasing a home stair lift system there are several things you need to think about in order to get the right one just for you. The length of the stairs you need help getting up, the shape of the stairs, how often you will use it and your own physical size. Answering these questions will make it easier to help you decide which type of stair lift system you'll be needing in your home.
Warning
-
No matter what type of home stair lift system you decide to purchase, it is best to not install it yourself. Always have a professional install any stair lift system. Never try to fix a broken stair lift system yourself. Again, call a professional either for advice or for home repair. Trying to fix a home stair lift system yourself can be time consuming and, if not done right, can end up costing you much more than you bargained for.
