OSHA CPR Certification
While OSHA currently mandates first aid regulations for general industry, shipyards, marine terminals, longshoring and construction, cardio pulmonary resuscitation, or CPR, training is only required in the logging industry.-
Basics of CPR Training
-
CPR trainees must learn the definition of first aid, master the study of basic anatomy and be apprised of the Good Samaritan Law. The Good Samaritan Law encourages bystanders to help in an emergency situation and protects them from some consequences of doing so.
Conditions for Administering CPR
-
Conditions which might require the use of CPR include respiratory and cardiac arrest, massive blood loss, broken bones, head injuries, eye injuries, burns, exposure to extreme temperatures, poisoning and drug overdose. Trainees must be familiar with these conditions and their treatment.
CPR Training Regulations
-
Trainees develop CPR skills through hands-on methods including use of mannequins and training partners. Basic training elements include clearing the airway, performing breathing and circulatory resuscitation, assessing choking and resuscitating a drowning victim. Trainees are tested and obtain OSHA certification yearly.
