Is Online CPR Training Recognized?
Online CPR training is available in many styles and formats. The online style of training can be an effective method for the person who is too busy to stop and sit in a modern classroom. As in any other type of online training, CPR can be taken at your leisure stopped and started right in the comfort of your own home!-
The Online Method
-
Online training is a modern method available for just about any type of college or training program. It provides a student with the ability to get on a computer at home, or at work and take a 6 or 8 hour class as much in one sitting as they desire. Most classes allow a student 30 days access to their program, so it can be started and stopped as long as it is completed 30 days from when it is started. It is a great alternative for those that don't have the time to go to a college campus or other facility or don't live near one. Online training is better suited for people who can read and teach themselves. If this is you, then online CPR training is a great choice.
Recognition of Online CPR
-
Online CPR training is a recognized form of training for most places. Every job is a little different so asking your employer prior to spending the money would still be a wise choice. Most of the major CPR agencies have been offering online training for many years and have been accepted by most companies without any problems. Healthcare Providers are a little different. Doctors, Nurses, Paramedics and EMTs who are required to take Healthcare Provider CPR can take the training online, but they still must take a printed out certificate to a CPR training site to get their hands on skills evaluated by an instructor. This still is a great way of taking the training since it cuts down how much time you must spend in the classroom.
Getting Started
-
To get started on your CPR training, find out which program is the best for you. If this class is for an employer, find out which program they require and if they want a specific CPR program, i.e. (American Heart Association, American Red Cross). Some agencies prefer one over the other, since some are considered a standard. If you don't need a specific organization then research on the Internet for prices and for a well known and nationally recognized company. Some of the more commonly known are American Red Cross, American Heart Association, and the American Safety and Health Institute. Many courses will even let you take the program for free and only charge you for the certification card.
Alternatives to online training
-
Online training is not for everyone, some people need the assistance of an instructor when they take the class. Some online programs offer access to a live person during the 30 days access, however it still does not take the place of having someone in the room with you. Attending a class at your local training center not only gives you the benefit of an instructor being present, but it also gives you hands on with a mannequin which will simulate having to help a real person. Performing skills in front of other people can be intimidating, but they are right there with you, and actually doing the skills with immediate feedback is invaluable to your training.
Follow up on your online training
-
Taking online training is a great alternative to going to a classroom, but the information is only as good as you take it in. Any time you take an online class followup on the information every so often to refresh your mind. CPR is full of many numbers, respiratory rates, compression rates, age guidelines, etc. Reviewing these numbers on a regular basis will help you do CPR correctly should you ever need to save someone's life.
