Glass Master Extrication Tools

Wehr Engineering designed and manufactures GlasMaster extrication tools, used by fire and rescue workers to quickly remove vehicle glass to rescue the victims of accidents. These tools include the Glas-Master, Colum-Master and pocket rescue tools or knives. They are designed to be the most efficient manually operated tool for each specific task and do not require access to external power.
  1. Glas-Master

    • The Glas-Master is a specialized tool used to remove glass from accident vehicles. It incorporates a window punch, cutting blade with hand guard, and a notched and spiked T-handle. The window punch has a harder tip and is integrated into the handle so it cannot be misplaced. The blade is designed to cut the glass quickly as it is being pulled back toward the rescuer to reduce risk to the person inside the vehicle, while the hand guard protects the rescuer. The notch and spike in the handle are both useful for breaking, grabbing and pulling glass or valve stems. This tool can also be used on fiberglass, wood or plaster, and because it is manually powered it is useful for underwater rescue.

    Colum-Master

    • The Colum-Master's basic use is to act as an advanced pry bar, using leverage to redirect the steering column to facilitate access to and removal of the accident victim from the wrecked car, but it can be used for a variety of other rescue operations. Parts of the car that are trapping the individual inside can be pried up and away using the Colum-Master tool, or it can be set in the ground nearby and used to anchor chains for use during the rescue. This allows tow trucks or rescue vehicles to get better leverage for prying pieces out of the wreck.

    Rescue Tools

    • Wehr offers both "Rescue Tools" and "Pocket Rescue Tools." These tools resemble knives with serrated blades, but include a variety of options such as a screwdriver, prying tool, hook, marlin spike, and window puncher with a safety lock and anti-slip, high-visibility grip. This gives rescuers the ability to break windows, pry metal, cut laminated glass, seat belts, clothes, cords or cables. The blade release button and handle are large enough for easier use while wearing gloves, and the EMT version has a rounded tip to make it safer when working in close quarters around a patient.
