What are extra hazard occupancies?

Extra hazard occupancies are occupancies that present significant risks to life and property due to flammable or explosive contents, processes, or conditions, These occupancies include:

- Factories using chemicals that burn rapidly and intensely.

- Factories processing or using highly flammable or explosive materials.

- Aircraft hangars housing aircraft with fuel tanks equal to or greater than 570 litres total capacity.

- Storage facilities housing more than 12,000 litres of flammable or combustible liquids above ground.

- Bulk oil storage establishments handling more than 57,000 litres of petroleum products or other flammable or combustible liquids.

- Factories producing cellulose nitrate or pyroxylin plastics.

- Grain elevators

- Cotton gins
