How to Escape From a Bus Fire

Knowing how to act in an emergency situation can be the difference between life and death. When it comes to emergencies concerning buses, your ability to act quickly, calmly and knowledgeably is especially important due to the number of people that will likely be on the bus with you. If a fire were to break out, knowing the steps below may very well prove invaluable to you and those around you.

Instructions

    • 1

Stop the bus and analyze the situation to determine if evacuation is necessary. If not, you may start an unnecessary panic.

    • 2

Secure the bus if possible. Make sure the emergency break is engaged and the engine is off.

    • 3

Determine which exit is best. Buses have several exits: front, back, windows and roof. Choose the exit farthest from the fire.

    • 4

Move toward the exit in an orderly fashion.

    • 5

Help people exit the bus in a calm, but quick manner and then leave the bus.

    • 6

Stand at least 100 feet from the bus and tell everyone else to do the same.

    • 7

      Call the authorities.

    • 8

Obtain any necessary assistance from bystanders or passing cars.
