Schrade Baton Instructions
The Schrade baton is a type of collapsible baton manufactured by Taylor Brands. Taylor Brands is known for its extensive collection of cutlery and tools. Collapsible batons are used by law enforcement officers and are commonly seen in the hands of riot police. For civilians, a collapsible baton can be useful for self-defense. The Schrade baton is relatively inexpensive and comes in a range of sizes. Caution always must be used when handling one, as it is made out of steel and can deal great damage.Things You'll Need

Before Purchasing
-
1
Determine the law for your state or country. Depending on your location, it might be illegal to possess or carry a collapsible baton.
-
2
Choose the appropriate length for your body. Schrade batons range in size, from 16 inches to 26 inches. Shorter batons are easier to handle and hide, but they also require that you get closer to your attacker. Larger batons have more weight and striking power but are more difficult to conceal.
-
3
Familiarize yourself with how to use a baton in self-defense. Always keep a firm but flexible grip on the handle. Aim for the bony or more vulnerable areas of an attacker to stop him more quickly. If the attacker has a weapon, always disarm him first. Be careful around the head area -- hitting someone in the head with a baton is the equivalent of hitting them with a steel pipe. Damage can be severe and irreversible.
Using the Baton

Remove the Schrade baton from the nylon pouch or holster.

With a firm grip on the handle, swing your arm sharply. The two extending segments will come out of the handle and lock into place.
-
6
Retract the baton by tapping the end sharply against a hard surface.
-

Replace the baton in its holster and store in a safe location.
