Delaware Snow Removal Training

Snow removal is an arduous and often lengthy endeavor involving a number of state and local workers. Workers employed by the state of Delaware are trained to adhere to safety and to get the job done as expediently as possible.

Identification

• The state of Delaware delegates snow removal procedures to employees in its Department of Transportation (DOT). Much of their training occurs on the job as they learn from experienced mentors how to safely effect snow removal. To perform this task in Delaware, the operator must acquire a commercial driver's license.

Features

• One primary aspect of training is operation of the vehicle. This includes being able to maintain expedited speed while remaining safe. DOT employees have to master pre-treatment options such as laying down brine on roadways. Additionally, these operators have to learn to manipulate the plow during removal and transit. They are also instructed on how to manage the fatigue that comes with the often long hours devoted to this job.

Considerations

• In partnership with state workers, the state of Delaware also subcontracts some aspects of snow removal to private landscaping companies, individual plowers and even farmers. In these cases, the training will not necessarily correlate in every instance with the experience of state employees. However, the basic skill sets described above apply in many circumstances.
