How to Use Fire Boots

Fire fighters must wear a protective fire suit that can withstand the extreme heat conditions of a fire and protect the wearer. This suit is typically made of fire retardant materials that will not be ignited easily and creates a shield, keeping extreme heat away from the body of the fire fighter. One of the most important items of the protective suit are the fire boots, which must comply with National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards.

Instructions

    • 1

Put socks on your feet to create a barrier between the inner area of the boots and your feet. This will help prevent friction and the creation of blisters.

    • 2

Put on fire resistant pants, which will protect your legs from excessive amounts of heat.

    • 3

Grab the handles on either side of the boot and slide your foot into the boot. Pull the boot snug onto your foot using the handle, so that your heel is touching the bottom of the boot.

    • 4

Cover the top portion of the boots with the bottom portion of the fire pants to ensure a there is a continuous heat shield over both body parts.
