How to Don an Elastomeric Respirator
Elastomeric respirators protect against airborne contaminants, including pesticides, chemicals, germs, viruses, dust and pollen. Whether you are a health care professional, construction worker or horticulturist, donning an elastomeric respirator can reduce your risk of inhaling dangerous chemicals, gases and particles. An elastomeric respirator must fit properly over your face for it to work effectively. Perform a fit test each time you don an elastomeric respirator by adjusting the straps until it is securely fitted to your face.Instructions

1
Grasp the nose and mouth covering of the elastomeric respirator with your dominant hand.
-
2
Pinch the elastic strap directly opposite the nose and mouth covering with your non-dominant hand.
-
3
Pull back the elastic strap with your non-dominant hand. Position the face covering over your nose and mouth and pull the elastic strap over the top of your head.
-
4
Adjust the elastic straps on both sides of the face covering until the respirator fits snugly over your nose, mouth and cheeks. The head strap should fit slightly tighter than a fitted cap.
-
5
Press on the front of the respirator with the palm of your hand, pushing the respirator in towards your face. This will reveal any unsealed seams or looseness in the elastomeric respirator.
-
6
Readjust the straps to compensate for any looseness.
