How to Tie a Hasty Seat Harness
A hasty seat harness, also called an emergency harness or hasty webbing harness, is constructed with a webbing strap. The strap is wrapped around the hips, pelvic region and top of the legs to create a seat. Rescue workers can use this harness to lift someone out of harm's way, but it can also be used for climbing and repelling activities. A hasty seat harness isn't as comfortable as other harnesses, but it is safe and can be created much faster, especially with practice. Knowledge of how to correctly create a hasty seat harness will ensure your safety.Things You'll Need

1
Find the center of the webbing strap and tuck a 3 to 4 inch loop into the center waistband of the front of your pants. Pass both ends of the strap down and between your legs, then pull one around each leg. This will create two lines parallel to the zipper of your pants and you will have the left end of the strap in your left hand and the right end of the strap in your right hand.

2
Pass the strap in your left hand under the left side of the strap that runs parallel to the zipper of your pants, then pass the strap in your right hand under the right side of the strap that runs parallel to your zipper. Pull the ends of the straps tightly to release the loop that is tucked inside your waistband.
-
3
Pass both ends of the straps back behind you and around the waist two times. The left end of the strap will return to your left hand and the right end will return to your right hand.
-
4
Secure the straps to front of your right hip with a square knot. To create a square knot, cross the left end over the right end and pull it through, then cross the right end over the left end and pull it through. This is like the first step when tying a shoe, except you must alternate with left over right, then right over left.
-
5
Tie the remaining ends of the straps using half-hitches, which is also like the first step in tying your shoe but without alternating from left over right to right over left. Leave 6 inches hanging from the knot, then attach a carabiner to the two straps around your waist and the loop that was tucked inside the waistband.
