Working with children can be a demanding task, but it is particularly trying in cases of medical emergencies. Quick, smart thinking and appropriate action are critical when children are injured or need emergency care. Any caregiver in pediatrics should be well prepared for these circumstances.

    • These seminars are held nationwide and are hosted by a number of professionals in medicine and childcare. They mostly focus on pediatric emergencies. They are hosted a few times throughout the year, often at hospitals and medical centers and are an excellent source of information and professional advice.

    Academic Institutions

    • Some colleges offer training for childcare emergency situations. The University of New Mexico offers a Pediatric Emergency Training Online Education Program. This program offers courses in trauma and other critical pediatric emergencies and can be completed from home at the student's leisure.

    Books and Other Resources

    • It is always good to have an indexed guide close by, such as Boston Children Hospital's "The New Child Health Encyclopedia: The Complete Guide for Parents." A tool such as this can be invaluable when faced with a situation beyond the scope of a caregiver's expertise. The internet and local library are great places to find additional information.
