Bulk Cereal & Survival Food

A stock of survival food can save your family during an emergency. Survival foods must be nonperishables, dry goods or freeze-dried meals. Cereal is an example of a dry good that can be bought in bulk and stored.
  1. Bulk Grains

    • Bulk granola and grain-based cereals are sold in 2- to 5-pound bags. Some cereals contain dried food and nuts that can spoil. Simple grain based cereals such as oatmeal will keep longer.

    Brand Name Bulk Cereals

    • Brand name bulk is purchased through the manufacturer. General Mills is one company that provides bulk sizes of some of their brands. The brand name cereals have long shelf lives, sometimes up to five years.

    Survival Food

    • Packaged survival food is freeze dried, giving it a shelf life of seven to 10 years. The food is not known for being tasty, but some companies are making improvements in the variety and taste of freeze dried food. Freeze dried food can be taken on long camping trips or stored as part of an emergency plan.
