What Is in a Hurricane Safety Kit?
Hurricane season can become very dangerous if you are not well equipped with the necessary survival essentials. Preparing a hurricane safety kit and determining what should go inside will prove very beneficial.-
Food Items

Bottled water is essential in your kit. Store 1 gallon per individual per day, enough for three to seven days. Non-perishable packaged foods like beef jerky, tuna and chicken along with a variety of canned foods from vegetables to fruits can also be placed in your storage container. Add some snack foods like peanuts, dried fruit and crackers. Keep in mind specialty items needed for babies and the elderly.
Personal Items

Place extra rain gear, shoes, pants, shirts, socks and undergarments in containers to keep dry. Store extra blankets and pillows for additional warmth and comfort. Also, include hygiene and toiletry products, prescription drugs, medicines and a first aid kit.
Equipment Items

Store flashlights and extra batteries in your survival kit. Include a non-electric can opener, battery operated radio with extra batteries, cell phone with an additional battery, spare keys and a basic set of tools. Also, be sure to include a pocket knife, rope, duct tape and axe.
Miscellaneous Items

Enclose all your important documents such as insurance, medical records, bank account numbers, Social Security card, etc. in a waterproof container or watertight resealable plastic bag. Include games or book to help pass the time.
