Organic Storage Foods for an Emergency
If you're a healthy eater who enjoys organic goodies, Ramen, Twinkies and Spam are not great options for your just-in-case food storage container. Adapt lists from preparedness groups, and look for the organic versions of those items.

Canned Fruit
-
Fruits are a great source of vitamins and natural sugars. Keep some cans of fruit in your storage area; try to avoid applesauce or other fruits in glass jars as they are easily breakable. Although dried fruit is another good option, canned fruit will be less likely to spoil. Any moisture in your storage container will initiate mold growth on the dried fruit.
Native Forest produces several types of canned fruit: peaches, pineapples and mandarin oranges. The brand also sells canned mangosteen, rambutan and Asian pears for the more adventurous eater. These canned fruits are preserved in organic fruit juice.
These canned fruits are very high in Vitamin C, so stock up on a few of them. Try to purchase different fruits so that you will not have a monotonous diet and you can cater to different tastes.
Native Forest also produces several types of canned vegetables, including mushrooms and artichoke hearts. Include canned vegetables in your storage container for healthy, filling food options.
Macaroni and Cheese
-
You might be able to find a way to boil water during some emergency situations. Keeping sacks of rice and pasta on hand will be useful if you have a way of boiling water. Meat and vegetables will last longer if you mix them with a carbohydrate-rich food.
If you are lactose-intolerant or if you have a dairy allergy, you should purchase boxes of plain pasta and rice. Otherwise, macaroni and cheese is rich in calcium and protein. It's also a great comfort food, and it just may hit the spot in an emergency.
Annie's produces a few variations of macaroni and cheese. You can choose between classic macaroni and cheese, Parmesan pasta and cheddar pasta. These boxes include pasta as well as the cheese mix. In addition to being organic and vegetarian, Annie's Macaroni and Cheese is low in cholesterol and a good source of Vitamin B1 and folate.
Soups
-
If you have a source of heat, you can heat cans of soup. Include a few canned soups in your emergency food-storage container. Amy's provides a great variety of healthy soups which cater to eaters of all tastes and health conditions.
Amy's offers vegan, low sodium, kosher, dairy-free and gluten-free soups. These hearty soups include vegetables, beans and lentils. Amy's also produces a No Chicken Noodle Soup, which is ideal for children or picky eaters. Other soups include classic mushroom and tomato soups, while the organic brand also offers more exotic fare like Curried Lentil Soup and Thai Coconut Soup.
Ricemilk
-
Consumers of organic products have many different milk alternatives to choose from. If you're lactose-intolerant or if you have a dairy allergy, rice milk or soy milk are perfect sources of calcium and other vitamins. Flavorful and healthful milk might be a welcome treat in the case of any emergency. You should also stock up on milk if any infants or toddlers will be reliant on the food supply.
Good Karma offers four types of rice milk: Original, Unsweetened, Vanilla and Chocolate. Good Karma's Ricemilk also has a shelf life of 360 days, so you only need to check on your milk supply about once a year.
