Instant Diarrhea Causes

Instant diarrhea is not pleasant, especially if you are miles from a bathroom. Unfortunately it will strike at inconvenient times, such as during a long hike in the woods or after ingesting certain types of food. It occurs when food passes through the large intestine and out of the body in liquid form without solidifying. Knowing what causes liquid diarrhea will help you avoid being caught in a difficult situation.

  1. Diseases

    • Often called IBS for short, Irritable Bowel Syndrome is a condition that affects your digestive tract. The condition often results in instant diarrhea, although it occurs for different reasons in different people. Certain types of foods may bring on a bout of instant diarrhea. Colitis and Crohn's disease are two more diseases that cause diarrhea.

    Bacterias and Parasites

    • Bacteria and parasites also cause instant diarrhea. Hikers who drink from streams must filter their water to avoid Giardia lamblia, a parasite that causes diarrhea. Entamoeba histolytica and Cryptosporidium are two more parasites that cause the affliction. In addition, salmonella found in uncooked chicken and Escherichia coli, commonly known as E. coli, found in water near farms are two bacterias that cause diarrhea in humans.

    Viruses

    • Several viruses will cause instant diarrhea or uncontrolled diarrhea. These viruses include herpes, the rotavirus and Norwalk virus. Typically, these viruses develop over a period of time such as 24 to 48 hours, and the symptoms will include diarrhea.

    Foods

    • Some foods may cause instant diarrhea either through bearing parasites or from a food allergy. In addition, certain people may experience reactions to certain types of food. This may be partly due to diseases and viruses or a separate reaction to fats, spices and ingredients in the food. Hot peppers, beef and greasy food may agitate the intestinal tract, leading to instant diarrhea in combination with any of the above listed causes.

    Medicines

    • Medicines and treatments are also prone to causing instant diarrhea. Antibiotics taken to kill infections, blood pressure medications, and even an antacid that has magnesium in it are common causes of diarrhea. In addition, the eye drop medication Visine has been known to cause instant diarrhea when ingested.
