How to Use Pacing with Lifepak 12

While automated external defibrillators (AED) in airports and public buildings can be used by most laypeople, the Lifepak 12 defibrillator/monitor is recommended for use in hospitals and by EMS, fire and police personnel.

Instructions

  1. Preparing the Patient

    • 1

      Bare patient's chest and trim heavy chest hair.

    • 2

      Clean and dry all electrode sites, avoiding alcohol or benzoin products.

    • 3

      Turn the Lifepak 12 on.

    Applying ECG Electrodes

    • 4

      Apply the electrocardiogram (ECG) electrodes.

    • 5

      Connect electrodes to the ECG cable.

    • 6

      Check that there is enough space to apply therapy electrodes.

    Applying Therapy Electrodes

    • 7

      Apply QUIK-COMBO therapy electrodes by smoothing from end to end. Press firmly to remove all air.

      Connect the QUIK-COMBO electrodes to therapy cable

    • 9

      Check that electrodes are clear of wounds or dressings.

    Pacing

    • 10

      Press the Pacer.

    • 11

      Check the screen for ECG rhythm and the sense marker on each QRS. Adjust ECG size or select a different lead.

    • 12

      Select pacing rate by pressing Rate or rotating Selector.

    • 13

      Increase pacing current by pressing Current or slowly rotating Selector.
