How to Improvise a Mini Survival Kit

A mini-survival kit is a pocket sized collection of the essential tools for outdoor survival. The kit contains supplies that are the most difficult to replace or improvise in a survival situation. Mini-survival kits are available at any camping or outdoor sports store, or you can assemble one yourself. Carry it along at all times to complement other survival tools.

Things You'll Need

• A metal box (used to package mints)
• Razor blades
• Small box of matches
• 4 cotton balls soaked in gasoline and dried out for fire starters
• 6 fish hooks with short line attached
• 6 fishing weights
• Fishing knot sheet
• 20 ft. fishing line or heavy duty black thread
• Small LED flashlight
• 20 ft. snare wire
• Button compass
• Plastic wrap
• Vacuum packed acetaminophen (or ibuprofen)
• 2 condoms (non-lubricated) for carrying water
• 10 ft. parachute cord
• Duct tape, a 2 ft. length and extra for sealing the box
• 6 safety pins, various sizes
• 12 inch square of aluminum foil
• Tea bag, optional (to improve the taste of boiled water)

  Sand the exterior of the metal mints tin and spray paint it a solid color of choice. Allow the paint to dry overnight.

  Fold a piece of aluminum foil to fit into the bottom of the container. Position the tea bag (optional) on top of the foil and duct tape it in place.

  Cover the matchbox with a piece of plastic wrap and place it in the box. Set it to one side and then set the condoms next to it. Push the cotton balls to the inside of the wind of thread. Position the thread on top of the matches and condoms.

  Put the razor blades, weights and fish hooks in a small plastic bag. Set it on top of the thread. Set the snare wire atop the plastic bag.

  Tuck the compass and acetaminophen into any remaining space. Close the tin.

  Wrap the tin with a piece of duct tape around the length and the width to repel water. Cover the hinges. Wrap the parachute cord around the tin.
