1
Buy and pack up dry foods such as cereal bars, canned vegetables and meats and even candies and chips. These type of foods will help you if you are driving and if you still get caught in parts of the storm.
-
2
Pack sensible clothes for your travels. You will need blankets to keep you warm if some of the tornado winds still effect you and your family. Take clothes that will keep you comfortable and that provide movement. Tight clothes and high heeled shoes are not a smart choice.
-
3
Check the local news frequently to find out how much time you have to evacuate before the storm hits. You will want to know if you will arrive to your safety destination in the allotted time.
-
4
Get extra batteries for flashlights, radios and any other supplies you might need. If you are evacuating by car, make sure you have a few flashlights in the car for easy access. Tornadoes can mix up the air with dust and chemicals and you might not be able to see at times.

5
Make sure you have all medicines and prescriptions with you if you are evacuating before a tornado. Ask your doctor for refills if necessary.
-
6
Turn off all of your electrical products in your home. Shut off water, gas, heating, air conditioning and anything else you usually use to run the home. This plan will help you in the long run if the storm comes to your area and affects your home.
