How to Practice Fire Safety in Public

Fire safety in public places is a high priority for local fire departments and public planners. A great number of guidelines have been adopted for public fire safety including some basic and general parameters that are pretty much universally followed to promote fire safety in public.

Instructions

    • 1

Fire extinguishers and firefighting equipment must be present where applicable. Building inspection agencies have taken care to include this as a mandatory responsibility of builders and administrators.

    • 2

Exit doors must remain free and unblocked, and exit signs must be posted. Exit signs have been established as very important to guide the public along evacuation routes in case of a fire.

    • 3

Flammable materials must be controlled and considered in the building process. In some buildings, even things like corkboards are controlled to minimize fire risk.

    • 4

Fire control systems like sprinklers and alarms must be in working order. This is a basic requirement that inspectors enforce to make sure public fire safety is upheld.

    • 5

One sometimes overlooked rule of public fire safety is the role that individuals play. The established rule is that a person should call a fire to the attention of nearby people but should not do it in a way that could cause hysteric behavior or a stampede that would be fundamentally unsafe.
