Chemicals at Work Causing Health Problems

Most people come face to face with chemicals every day of their lives. The common products we use in our homes are made of chemicals including cosmetics, soaps and plastics. Some chemicals do not pose any danger to the health of human beings but there are those that cause temporary or minor health problems. The chemicals can be dangerous resulting in serious health complications when one is exposed to them. The dangerous chemicals are finding application in export factories. Some industrial jobs produce dangerous chemicals that get into your body through the skin.
  1. Pesticides in Homes

    • It has come to the attention of the medical fraternity that common pesticides used at home speed up the process of aging in the nervous and immune system of the body. This results in complications related to health when one is exposed to these chemicals for some years. The majority of citizens believe the chemicals have undergone testing by government agencies. A chemical company can do its own testing procedure and give results to The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, which offers risk of biased reporting.

    Exposure at Work

    • There is danger of being exposed to chemicals at work when using the chemical or when working around people who use the chemicals. The scope of negative effects for chemicals on your health will depend on how you are exposed to the chemical, the quantity of chemical you are exposed to, how dangerous the chemical is you are exposed to and the duration you are exposed to the chemical. Most chemical exposures during work occurs through the skin, mouth and air. Skin and eyes absorb chemicals, the nose breathes in chemicals from the air to the body and the mouth swallows the chemical through food contamination.

    Chemical-Emitting Bedding

    • Modern beds today are made from a variety of petrochemical products including polyurethane foam and vinyl. Research has shown petroleum chemicals that make bedding materials become emitted in zones where people breathe. These chemicals are respiratory irritants and carcinogens that can likely cause asthma and cancer in children. Scientists are coming up with evidence as to why children are developing learning disorders for the past 30 years. The evidence points to exposure to everyday chemicals, which result in learning disorders.

    Effects of Chemical Exposure

    • Exposure to chemicals can cause irritation such as itchy skin, sore throat, difficulty in breathing, coughing or sneezing. Getting away from the chemical helps to stop the irritation. Chemicals that bring harm to the lungs cause asthma and other breathing problems. Signs that you have asthma include shortness of breath, wheezing, feeling tight in the chest and coughing. An allergic reaction to a specific chemical can cause a short-term health problem. Allergies also cause skin rash, breathing problems and nose or eye irritation. Some people are resistive to allergic reactions.
