Places to Recycle Aluminum Cans in Minnesota

Recycling instead of discarding aluminum cans helps the environment and can make your city or town a more beautiful place. It can also help you get some money back after all those soft-drink cans you've purchased. Some municipalities in Minnesota have recycling programs that can actually put money back in your pocket.
  1. Home Pickup

    • Many municipalities in Minnesota will pick up your recycling from bins outside your home, just like trash. For example, if you sign up for the recycling service in the city of Minneapolis, you receive a $7 credit on your utility bill every month. Check with your local solid-waste office to see if they offer a similar service. Not all municipalities offer this credit; for example, Minneapolis's twin city of St. Paul does not. The Recycling Association of Minnesota provides county-by-country information on all solid waste offices throughout the state.

    Municipal Drop-Off

    • If your county or municipality does not offer curbside recycling, or you opt not to use curbside pickup, you can use drop-off locations provided by many municipalities. For more locations, contact Recycle More Minnesota or your local solid-waste office.

    Private Recycling Drop-Off Sites

    • Some businesses offer private recycling services and will often pay you a fee for bulk items you bring to recycle. While not every municipality may have a private company accepting recyclable materials, they will be found in many of the larger ones. The website RecyclingCenters.org lists private recycling centers by zip code.

    Scrap Metal Dealers

    • If you would like to recycle aluminum cans only, you may be able to find scrap metal dealers that will accept them. These will also often pay you a fee for your cans.
