1
Obtain a waste storage permit from your local health department. Contact your local health department for details of how to get this permit.
-
2
Contact a local waste management company to get standard waste containment bins. Never throw flammable waste in the trash can. If the waste container seems damaged at all, switch it to a new container immediately. If you already have the waste in a container, contact the company for backup containers.
-
3
Put on gloves, goggles and an apron when handling hazardous materials.
-
4
Pour the hazardous waste into the container. As long as you pour the waste into a container with the same materials, this is safe. Do not mix the flammable waste with other materials. This could cause a fire or an explosion. Secure the lid onto the container. The lid snaps into place fairly easily.
-
5
Label the flammable waste so that everyone knows that the materials inside the container are flammable. Label the front of the container with "Flammable Hazardous Waste." Use clear tape to ensure that the label stays on the container. For continuity, use the same label on other containers housing the same materials.
-
6
Store your flammable hazardous waste with other flammable hazardous waste. Never mix flammable hazardous waste with other hazardous materials. Keep your waste in a place that is free of electrical appliances.
