The Advantages of Using Wind for Electricity

Energy source discussions have been at the forefront of media and government institutions. Environmental concerns focus on the constant stream of pollution that is fed into the atmosphere and natural environment as a result of current energy sources. The other major concern relates to finding a renewable energy source to replace the current nonrenewable energy infrastructure. Wind power is currently already used in many areas around the world and provides many advantages.
  1. Renewable

    • One of the most notable advantages that wind power provides over current technologies is being renewable. Eventually, fossil fuels will run out, leaving the world with an extremely high demand for and low supply of energy; however, relying on renewable resources, such as wind and solar power, will allow a constant replenishment of energy.

    Clean

    • Another key advantage of wind energy is that it's a clean energy source. This means that unlike many current technologies, wind will not pollute the environment. Harmful by-products won't be released into the atmosphere and on-land and on-water pollution are eliminated.

    Remote Locations and Cost

    • Getting electricity within remote areas can be difficult; on top of this, constant outages are far more common within remote regions, which can make life difficult in these towns. Wind power provides a more advantageous solution. It allows towns to become more self-dependent, resulting in a more constant and efficient stream of energy.

Wind turbines are also extremely cost effective over the long run. The main cost with wind farms is the cost of installation; once installed, the only costs are generally related to the cost of general upkeep.

    Sea Farms

    • Although advantageous in many ways, due to the oftentimes large demand for electricity, wind farms must be spread out over large areas of land. A wind farm will often include hundreds of large windmills. For some local residents, the aesthetic look can become a problem. An alternative is wind farms at sea. There are several advantages of sea-based wind farms, including isolation, higher wind speeds and steadier wind speeds.
